Backend Software Engineer (Java) | Payments / Financial services

We are partnering with a leading technology-driven organisation operating within the Financial Services, FinTech and Payments sector to hire several experienced Senior Backend Software Engineers.

This is an opportunity to join a high-performing engineering team responsible for building and enhancing customer-facing products used at scale. You'll be involved in designing, developing and operating modern, cloud-based applications, collaborating with product, architecture and engineering colleagues to deliver resilient and scalable solutions.

Experience within Financial Services, FinTech or Payments environments is essential.

What You'll Be Doing

Designing, building and enhancing modern software applications and servicesDeveloping high-quality, maintainable and reusable codeContributing to microservices-based architectures and distributed systemsBuilding and supporting customer-facing applications used by large user populationsDriving software quality through automated testing and continuous improvementMonitoring application health, performance and operational reliabilityManaging deployments and supporting production environmentsInvestigating and resolving production incidents, conducting root cause analysis and implementing long-term fixesContributing to architectural discussions and solution designIdentifying opportunities to improve engineering practices, delivery processes and system performanceWorking closely with cross-functional teams to deliver business-critical technology solutions

We are particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate:

Strong Java development experienceExperience with Spring Boot and microservices architecturesExperience building customer-facing applicationsExperience with SQL and/or NoSQL databasesStrong backend engineering expertise and a solid understanding of distributed systemsExperience delivering large-scale applications, ideally supporting 10,000+ usersA track record of delivering measurable project outcomes and business impactExperience operating services in production environmentsStrong problem-solving, analytical and critical-thinking skillsExcellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills

Full-Stack Candidates

Whilst backend expertise remains the highest priority, we are also keen to hear from engineers with full-stack experience. Candidates with a combination of Java backend development and React.js frontend development will be considered, particularly where they have strong backend credentials and experience delivering end-to-end solutions.
