Their Ottawa office is seeking a Bilingual Legal Assistant to join a highly respected Labour, Employment & Human Rights practice.
This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated legal assistant who enjoys working directly with lawyers on complex workplace matters while also maintaining exposure to litigation files. Your New Role
As a Bilingual Legal Assistant, you will provide administrative and legal support to a group of Partners and Associates within the Labour, Employment & Human Rights practice, while also assisting with litigation matters.
Responsibilities will include:
Managing calendars, meetings, deadlines, and correspondencePreparing, formatting, and proofreading legal documents in both English and FrenchAssisting with court and tribunal filingsCoordinating and maintaining electronic and physical file recordsCommunicating with clients, opposing counsel, courts, and administrative tribunalsSupporting lawyers with litigation matters from file opening through to closingAssisting with document production, records management, and organization of case materialsProviding substantive support with drafting and file management where required
The role offers approximately a 50/50 split between Labour, Employment & Human Rights and Litigation, providing excellent exposure to multiple practice areas while working closely with a well-established team of lawyers.
What You'll Need to Succeed
To be considered for this opportunity, you will possess:
A minimum of 2 years of experience as a Legal Assistant within a law firm environmentStrong bilingual communication skills in both English and French (written and verbal)Experience supporting litigation practicesLabour & Employment or Human Rights experience is considered a strong assetExcellent organizational and time-management skillsStrong attention to detail and proofreading abilities in both official languagesThe ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environmentA professional and client-focused approach
Candidates should be comfortable working in both languages, as the interview process will include a French-language assessment and written exercise.
