[Remote] Software Engineer, Back-End - Mail (US)

The Back-End Engineer will build and operate scalable real-time systems, AI agent orchestration services, connector integrations, and data pipelines while collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams. The role also involves developing cloud infrastructure, ensuring reliability, and mentoring junior engineers.

Responsibilities

Build and operate high-throughput production services that power AI agent orchestration, connector integrations, and real-time data pipelinesDesign and build core platform services to allow our systems to scaleWork across the Superhuman product suite — whether that's Go, Mail, Docs, or Enterprise — depending on where you and the team see the best fitCollaborate closely with ML/AI, Product, and Front-End engineers to ship AI-powered features end to endBuild and evolve infrastructure as code, targeting high availability for both consumer and enterprise customersContribute to an engineering culture with a strong emphasis on documentation, testing, and reliabilityMentor and grow junior engineers on the team
Skills

8+ years of experience in back-end development, with strong fundamentals in algorithms, data structures, and system designExperience building, deploying, and debugging production systems at scaleExperience with AWS or other cloud platforms (GCP, Azure)Fluency with AI coding tools (Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code, etc.) and a point of view on how they change the way teams build softwareDeep understanding of CI/CD and infrastructure as codeDemonstrated ability to work independently, manage priorities across multiple projects, and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teamsStrong product instincts — you care about the end-user experience and can make good tradeoffs between speed and reliabilityExperience with real-time systems, event-driven architectures, or high-throughput API design is a plus
