Overview / Responsibilities
Wood is currently recruiting a Lead UI / UX Designer to work in any of our UK locations. As part of a global agile development team, the Lead UI / UX Designer role provides the opportunity to help to define and improve the user experience and look and feel of the digital solutions, through hands-on designs, and establishing UI / UX standards for other developers to follow. The role requires close liaising with the business, clients, IT services, outsource partners and third-party providers to design and deliver technical solutions to business requirements. As a member of the Digital and Technology team, the role holder will contribute to the Software Solutions objectives.
Responsibilities
Takes ownership of the User Experience design process and UI standards. Develops design libraries standard UI components, style guides and design systems with adherence to branding requirements, presenting as necessary, and mentors other team members on their applicationMaintains and further builds design team workflows that ensure that all designs delivered are in line with style guides and are of high-quality standards.Leads design activities to understand user needs & business opportunities, uncovers business/user needs and generates potential solutions. Communicates design decision to stakeholders with justificationConducts user research, gathers feedback, works closely with the internal and external customers and end-usersWorks closely with end-users, Product Owners, Business Analysts and SMEs to create rapid, iterative, and low-fi prototypes to turn UI design ideas into testable artefacts to collect and analyse the feedback of stakeholders in the early stages like ideationWorks closely with development teams to iteratively builds hi-fi prototypes with HTML/CSS/JavaScript and UI frameworks and guides development teams to deliver the user interfaces and experiencesGets involved in the testing and validation of UI designs, iterating, and enhancing them in line with the results and feedback gatheredDesigns and develops new front-end features, utilising company best practices and architectural standardsEnsures consistency of the user interface and corporate design signature across multiple platformsOversees the development and delivery of effective user interfaces. Be the focal point for the front-end development for others within the cross-functional agile development teamsDemonstrates a range of UI skills, working within the constraints of established applications, supporting browser compatibility and development techniquesContinuously look for opportunities to enhance the user experience and look and feel of the applications and ensure a consistent user experience
Qualifications
Qualifications:
Educated to degree/recognised certification level in relevant subject, or equivalent experienceKnowledge, skills and experience:
Ability to lead and direct design thinking for a wide range of productsProven working experience of User Interface and Experience design of Mobile, Tablet and Web applications with proficiency in designing and mocking up user interfaces using both low-fi and high-fi prototypesSolid understanding of UX and UI design principles with an emphasis on maximising usabilityWorking knowledge of the ideation and creation of UI design deliverables: Sitemaps, user flows, wireframes, lo-fi and hi-fi layouts, rapid prototypingWorking knowledge of collaboration and design tools such as Adobe XD, Figma, MuralWorking knowledge of HTML5, CSS, JavaScriptSolid understanding of view layout and rendering principles, responsiveness, browser, and device supports With demonstrable evidence, hands-on experience of working with rich presentation of statistical data, graphs, and management informationExperience mentoring or supervising other UI designersHands-on commercial experience with one or more client-side frameworks such as Angular, AngularJS, Vue or React and/or Microsoft Power Platform would be beneficialPersonal attributes:
